FAQ
About the School
What is Community Charter School (CCS)?
Community Charter School is a public, tuition-free charter school designed to serve families in Williston, Barnwell County, and surrounding communities. CCS blends classical educational principles with modern tools, project-based learning, and community partnership to educate the whole child — mind, character, and community.
When will CCS open?
CCS plans to open in the 2027–2028 school year, beginning with grades K–5 and adding one grade per year until reaching K–12.
Is CCS tuition-free?
Yes. CCS is a public, tuition-free school open to all students who are eligible to attend public school in South Carolina.
Mission & Educational Approach
What is the mission of CCS?
CCS empowers students to achieve academic excellence, grow in character, and contribute to their community through rigorous instruction, purposeful relationships, and strong community partnerships.
What type of educational model does CCS use?
CCS uses a modern approach to classical education, based on the Trivium (Grammar, Logic, Rhetoric), combined with STEM, structured literacy, project-based learning, Socratic discussion, and real-world application.
What will students experience academically?
Students receive strong foundations in reading, writing, and math; learn to think logically and analytically; and develop confident communication skills through writing, speaking, debate, and real-world projects.
Daily Experience
What does a typical school day look like?
A sample elementary day includes morning reflection, core academics, math and applied practice, integrated science/social studies, electives such as Spanish, coding, art, music, trades, and end-of-day reflection.
Will students have access to electives?
Yes — CCS offers a wide range of electives including Spanish, coding, art, music, trades, STEM, practical skills, and community-based projects.
Technology & Support
How does CCS use technology?
Technology supports — not replaces — learning. A custom Student Information System (SIS) helps families track progress, teachers monitor mastery, and students set and follow goals. Technology is purposeful and limited, especially in lower grades.
Does CCS support students with diverse learning needs?
Yes. CCS uses a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to provide tiered academic interventions, behavioral and social-emotional support, services for students with disabilities, and supports for English learners.
Admissions & Enrollment
How does CCS use technology?
Any student eligible for public school in South Carolina may apply. There are no academic, financial, or demographic admissions criteria.
How does enrollment work?
If applications exceed capacity, CCS will hold a public lottery. Siblings are grouped together, and staff children may receive limited priority as allowed by law.
Will transportation and meals be provided?
Yes. Transportation will be provided on high-demand routes, and nutrition services will comply with all state and federal requirements.
School Culture & Community
What is the school culture like?
CCS emphasizes wisdom, humility, courage, empathy, and integrity. Students learn in a safe, structured environment built on responsibility, respect, and strong relationships.
How are families involved?
Families are essential partners. They have real-time SIS access and are encouraged to volunteer, attend events, participate in school activities, and join student showcases.
How does CCS partner with the community?
Local businesses, mentors, and organizations collaborate with CCS to offer internships, mentorships, elective support, and community-based projects.
Safety & Governance
How is student safety ensured?
CCS follows all state safety regulations and provides secure campus access, emergency procedures, anti-bullying policies, and MTSS-based behavioral support.
Who governs CCS?
A nonprofit, independent Governing Board oversees policy, accountability, finances, and mission fidelity.
Getting Involved
